The Fraser Public Library is Expanding Access to Patrons

FRASER, Mich. – The Fraser Public Library is Expanding Access to Patrons as a Result of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 Recommendations.

The Fraser Public Library is pleased to further update its services to better serve our patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic effective Monday, October 19, 2020. The library is following recommendations from the CDC, state and local health departments at this time.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has increased the library’s capacity to 50 percent. With that, the library will no longer require reservations for browsing and the doors will be unlocked for patrons to enter the building.

Reservations are still required for computer and electronic access, and can now be made for the same day. Please call us at (586) 293-2055 to reserve your spot.

Upon entering the Fraser Public Library, patrons will receive a laminated card to be turned in before leaving. These cards are to ensure the library does not exceed the capacity limit set by the MDHHS. In the event we reach capacity at any time, the library’s doors will be temporarily locked.

Time limits will continue to be enforced. Patrons will have up to 45 minutes inside the library depending on time of arrival. The library will be open for 45-minute periods starting at the beginning of each hour and we will escort all patrons out of the building to disinfect for 15 minutes at quarter to the hour.

“To ensure everyone has equal access to the library, the time limits needed to stay in place,” said Kelly Forrester, marketing and development coordinator. “Our doors will be open at the start of every hour until 45 minutes after so long that we have not reached capacity.”

An example of how this works is if a patron enters the building at 1:15 p.m., he or she will have up to 30 minutes to browse until staff asks them to exit the building at 1:45 p.m. to clean. The doors will then reopen at 2 p.m. for the next period. Patrons are allowed to enter multiple times in the day.

The children’s section remains closed at this time due to lack of PPE; however, books or materials can be requested and a staff member will assist in getting those materials for our youth.

Consistent with the MDHHS recommendations, masks are required for entry as well as the following of all distancing guidelines.

Curbside service will remain available for patrons wanting to checkout books over the phone and pick-up outside.
